Night at the Museum

Night at the Museum was a tremendous success. We had a great turnout of students, their families, and staff. The awards ceremony and the gallery walk were enjoyed by all. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this event. A special thank you goes out to those of you who stayed and participated in the event. This was a great way to end the year as a PNA family.

There are a few more spots available for Senior Trip chaperones. Interested applicants should see the posting located at the following link:

Advisory Materials

This spring the movie club watched the movie "Pay it Forward". The story and the idea as a whole had a great impact on the students, which led them to the idea to have a day at the school to "Pay it Forward". They thought the best way to do that would be to allow everyone in the school to experience the movie and learn about the "Pay it Forward" idea through Advisories. All advisories are expected to participate in this even. Please combine Advisories for the watching of the movie (all students in one room, if possible). Click on the link below for pre- and post- activities and a timeline of events, from May 31st to June 14th. See Ms. Heller (aheller7@schools.nyc.gov) if you have questions.

Teacher Scholarship Best Practices

As we move into the last marking period of the 2010 – 2011 school year, it is increasingly important to monitor student performance on a daily basis and intervene quickly for those students who are in danger of failing for the term. You should continue to work with your Grade Team to establish individual and group intervention plans for those who did not pass. Please visit the following link and review the “Scholarship Best Practices” that were gathered by PNA teachers:

Network Summer PD Opportunity (REMINDER)

Our network is hosting a four day summer institute around planning and implementing the New York State Common Core Standards. Creating and implementing a performance task that is aligned to the Common Core Standards will be a requirement for all teachers next year. This four day institute will aide teachers in understanding and beginning this work. The institute will take place July 11 through July 14 from 9:00am to 3:00pm. Each of the four days will take place at Teacher’s College, Columbia University. Reply to the Weekly Update email if you are interested in attending.

Save Your Boxes! (REMINDER)

All teachers will be moving to a different classroom next year and this summer all rooms will be thoroughly cleaned. In addition to removing everything from walls and bulletin boards, all teachers will be required to pack all items in their rooms and label the boxes (so they can be moved to new rooms this summer). All personal belongings should either be packed in boxes or taken home (this includes the Teacher’s Lounge (room 407A) and the Science Prep area (room 465). More details will be communicated in the coming weeks. Please begin to save your boxes!
