Opportunity for TESOL & Bilingual Certification
Hunter College has been awarded a grant from the NYS Education Department that will allow the TESOL program to provide an accelerated course of study leading to an Additional Certificate in ESL for content and classroom teachers who currently hold certification in an area other than ESL.  The program cost to teachers will be substantially subsidized by the funding.  Hunter is beginning recruitment, with courses beginning in June 2016.  Join the information session on Tuesday, December 15th from 5-7pm at Hunter College Main Campus West Building, room W1007.
RSVP and find additional information at the following link: https://ww3.hunter.cuny.edu/school-of-education/view.php?id=32503

St. John’s University is offering Distance Learning where teachers may be eligible for a 50% tuition reduction.  Accelerated programs offer the opportunity to complete ONLINE or face to face the 15 credit coursework for the Advance Certificate in TESOL or Bilingual Extension.
For program selection and admission criteria, please send an email request for SOE Scholarship information to Dr. Taylor DeKay at TESOLprojects1@gmail.com
Food Drive/Coat Drive
The Youth Service Club will be starting their holiday coat drive.  If you would like to donate coats, please see Ms. Reyes-Luciano, Mr. Canales, Mr. Talay, Ms. Hain.  Concurrently, Ms. Santos is collecting cans for City Harvest’s holiday food drive.  If you would like to donate canned foods, please see Ms. Santos.
Attendance 1st period
A team of teachers, support staff, and leadership met over the summer to make a decision to no longer flip our 1st and 3rd period classes.  We know that this decision greatly affects the 1st period classes in our school.  The attendance team is pulling 1st period attendance from Skedula in order to make automated phone calls to students that were absent and late for 1st period.   This will only be done for classes that use Skedula for attendance 1st period.  If you have any questions or need support around 1st period attendance, please contact Ms. Del Valle (jdelvalle@pablonerudaacademy.org)
School Communication Team Announcement
The School Communication team will be managing PNA’s first Twitter account.  The account is meant to be updated regularly so our parents and school community can stay informed of events happening in our school.  If you have a Twitter, you can follow the team @PNA_INFO. If you do not have a Twitter account, you can access the tweets at the following link: https://twitter.com/PNA_INFO. #PNA
General Response Protocol (GRP) – Evacuation and Re-Entry
During an evacuation, teachers need to take with them the Assembly Card, as well as the class attendance.  Teachers then lead students out of the building.  Once outside, it is expected that you use the Assembly Card and stay with your class.  Upon Re-Entry of the building, you should lead your class to the scanning area by the general parking lot before you enter the building.  If you have any questions about the General Response Protocol, please refer to the GRP Poster in your classroom or contact Ms. Del Valle (jdelvalle@pablonerudaacademy.org).
Paper Requests
Our school has inherited a lot of legal size paper in all different colors.  Using these supplies will allow us to save funds in our year of fiscal crisis.  If you are able to use legal in lieu of letter size paper, please indicate it on your supply request submission.
