·          Weekly Update – The Calendar will now be shorter so that events that affect the staff and special events are highlighted.
·          New Clubs – Mr. Baker will be starting a Combat Sport Club on Mondays in room 499, and a Spirit Squad club will begin on Monday as well in room 462.
·          Book Fair -  The book fair is taking place in the library until Wednesday March 29th.  You may contact Marge Whitehead (library.aesec.whitehead@gmail.com) for more information
·          Custodial Announcements - Please be advised that the custodial team would like all staff to know that the Ramp should not be used as an exit or entrance.  Since the ramp does not have suitable hand rails, it should only be used for commercial loading and unloading purposes.  If you get hurt from falling or slipping on the ramp for any other purpose, you will not be covered.
School Survey (Staff) – Action Required
The NYC School Survey has arrived and was distributed. Please complete the survey online by March 31st. Once you submit, you are eligible to be entered into our gift certificate raffle.  Print out the confirmation page (or submit the card) and write your name on it and put it in Ms. Meneses’ mailbox.
School Survey (Students) – Action Required
Students will complete their surveys in CCR classes.  There will be a pizza party for the grade that has the highest submission rate.  In order to be included in the tally, please submit completed surveys to Ms. Meneses.  The deadline for students to complete the survey is March 31st.  If you have any questions about the school survey, please contact Ms. Meneses (cjankosky@pablonerudaacademy.org)
Summer School Application
Pedagogical and School-Based support staff may apply for summer school positions using the Summer School Instructional Program online  application tool (SSIP).  Applications are due by May 27; applications submitted after that date will be deemed late and only considered after review of applications submitted by the due date. The SSIP can be found at the following link (https://www.nycenet.edu/summerjobs/)
ISA Summer Institute
The Institute for Student Achievement organizes a Summer Institute annually.  The Summer Institute is designed for individual schools to develop and create strategic plans for the new school year.  If you are interested in participating we ask that you fill out the following form.  Room and board will be provided to participants.  This would be a great opportunity for us to come together as a community.  The Institute will be held at the Glen Cove Mansion Hotel in Glen Cove, NY from the evening of June 28th to the afternoon of June 30th.
Consolidation Updates
The Panel for Educational Policy voted in favor of the consolidation between Pablo Neruda Academy and Bronx Guild, it is now official.  We are currently waiting for central planning offices to respond with approval and/or feedback on the school name.  Our next consolidation meeting will take place on March 27th at 4pm.  The meeting will be more of a professional social mixer, designed to allow staff to get to know one another.

Agenda and notes of all of the work can be found here.
Students leaving classrooms
As a reminder, please follow the proper protocol, as stated in the staff handbook, when you allow students to leave your classroom. Review the following:
·          Students visiting the restroom – Student should sign the bathroom log, and use the bathroom pass.  Only one student should be out at a time to use the restroom.  The safety team logs their use of the restroom with the bathroom log.  Students should not take the pass in the first 10 or last 10 minutes of a class.
·          Students visiting the office/nurse – Student should be given a written pass to the office.
·          Student who needs a break from the classroom – Student should be escorted out by a member of the safety team.  The safety team logs the classroom removal, and is able to communicate with the teacher(s) on whether the student is able to return.
Following the proper protocol will allow us to maintain a positive hallway culture where safety can address students who are not following procedure.  This will also maintain clear lines of communication between the safety team and the teachers.
Safety Team Transition Contest
As a reminder, the Safety Team will be awarding an additional $50 a month for PBIS for the grade team that demonstrates the most effort and results in shortening student transition times. Congratulations to the 9th Grade Team for their support in Febraury.
