Paperless PNA!

In an effort to save money and model how to use technology in the classroom, PNA administration will be going paperless! Instead of printing meeting agendas, professional readings, etc., administrators will use a newly created Pablo Neruda Academy website. Using Google Sites and Documents (especially forms), nearly all communication will be electronic. All teachers will be given Netbooks this week. Teachers must have their Netbooks with them every day, and they are mandatory at all meetings. Meeting agendas (including professional literature) will be accessed online. Meeting Do Nows will be completed electronically. Meeting notes will be submitted through a form, and then uploaded onto the agenda for everyone to review. Nearly all PNA Forms will be completed and submitted through the site. The website can be accessed at:

Stay tuned for more information!

September 6 & 7 Schedules of Activities

The September 6th and 7th Schedules of Activities can be found here. Official work hours for these days are 8:00 am to 2:50 pm. There is a lot of information to cover, so we will begin promptly at 8:00 am. Please ensure that you are here and ready to begin at that time.

Classroom Libraries

All classrooms are required to have classroom libraries for all subjects taught. Books that were labeled and stored in the bookroom have been distributed to classrooms. In addition, books that were not labeled are being distributed to Department Heads. Each department should work to distribute these books amongst the department’s teachers. Bookshelves have been distributed to all rooms. Additional bookshelves have also been purchased. All books should be placed on bookshelves for student access. Books should not be stored in closets or cabinets. If you need additional shelves, please fill out the Supply Request Form located on the PNA Forms page of the PNA website.

Physical Space Walkthrough

In order to ensure that PNA is ready for students on Thursday, a Physical Space Walkthrough will be conducted at the end of the day on Wednesday, September 7th. Please ensure that you have unpacked your boxes, set-up your classroom library, covered all bulletin boards, and set-up student seating. Also ensure your assigned hallway bulletin board is covered. Hallway board assignments (and a schedule) can be found in the appendix of the PNA Staff Handbook. If you have furniture or other items that you do not want, place them in the back of your classroom so they can be removed. Please do not place any items in the hallways. Teachers will receive individual feedback on their physical space by Friday, September 8th.

9th Period Postings

There are two 9th period per session positions available. 1 English and 1 Math class will run from 3:00 to 3:50 from Monday through Thursday. Interested candidates should refer to the Fall 2011 9th Period Posting for information on how to apply. Postings can be accessed through the PNA Personnel Page located on the PNA website.

Curriculum Maps & Course Syllabi

All Curriculum Maps are due at the end of the day on Tuesday, September 6th. As a reminder maps for all departments should be fully aligned to the new Common Core Standards. Syllabi for all courses are due on Friday, September 9th. These documents should be emailed to your Department Head. Please do not submit printed copies.

PNA Staff Contact Information Form

All staff members should complete the PNA Staff Contact Information Form by end-of-day Wednesday, September 9th. Please take a moment to fill out this brief form so we can update your contact information for this school year.
