Request for Personal Day Form
Effective immediately, if any staff member is requesting the use of a personal day, the first step is to fill out the Request for Personal Day form. Please use this form as a first step as opposed to verbally requesting approval. See Mr. Liu (dliu@pablonerudaacademy.org) if you have questions. The form can be found on the Forms page of the PNA website. It can also be found at the following link:
Youth Court Referrals
The PNA Youth Court is now open and will begin holding trials. All staff members are encouraged to use the Youth Court Referral Form to recommend students to the court. Ms. O’Connell and Mr. Dinner will also be gathering data from Skedula in order to find students who could be referred. As a reminder, all staff members are strongly encouraged to attend trials and observe the process. Trials will be held every Tuesday and Thursday at 3:00. See Mr. Dinner (ldinner@pablonerudaacademy.org) or Ms. O’Connell (hoconnell@pablonerudaacademy.org) if you have questions or are interested in attending a trial. The Youth Court Referral form can be found on the Forms page of the PNA website. It can also be found at the following link:

Individual Student Passes Available
All classrooms have a generic pass that should be used when students make requests to go to the bathroom or get water. Individual student passes should be issued when students are sent out of the room for any other reason (i.e. to go to the main office, social work office, etc.). A pass has been created for teachers to use for this purpose. Passes are in teacher’s mailboxes. These passes are not mandatory, but can aide teachers in quickly writing a pass for a student without significant interruption to instruction. See Ms. Heller (aheller@pablonerudaacademy.org) if you would need additional passes.
Understanding Walkthrough Best Practices
An Understanding walkthrough was conducted between November 14th and 26th. Teachers whose rooms were observed will receive individual letters with the low inference observations that were collected around the Danielson elements aligned to Understanding. A list of best practices was developed based on an analysis of the low inference observations. The list of Understanding best practices can be found at the following link: https://sites.google.com/site/scholarshipbestpractices/understanding-best-practices.
School Clocks (REMINDER)
PNA clocks now reflect the correct time. All staff members should ensure they are signing-in by 8:00 so they are not marked late. Procedures outlined in the PNA Staff Handbook should be followed if you are going to be late. Contact Mr. Liu (dliu@pablonerudaacademy.org) if you have questions.
Update to School Calendar (REMNDER)
This week the Chancellor announced that there would be an update to the school calendar as a result of school closures after Hurricane Sandy. All schools will hold full-day sessions from Wednesday, February 20, through Friday, February 22, which were previously scheduled as part of mid-winter recess. Contact Ms. Cook (scook@pablonerudaacademy.org) if you have questions.
Issuing Passes (REMINDER)
As a reminder and as stated in the PNA Staff Handbook, “Students are not permitted to use the restrooms during the first and last 10 minutes of class or during the change of period”. This policy applies to students needing a pass for any reason (water, etc.). Please ensure you are not issuing any passes during the first or last ten minutes of each class period. Contact Mr. Liu (dliu@pablonerudaacademy.org) if you have questions.
Student Removals (REMINDER)
As stated in the staff handbook, “Every student is entitled to receive an education. Some students have bad days and will act out in class. When this occurs the appropriated interventions must be put into place…” Student removals are warranted “if a student is behaving in a manner that is extremely disruptive to the educational process and prevents the learning of others.” Please note that students should not be removed for being unprepared for school, having no homework or classwork, coming late to class, talking out or talking without permission, chewing gum, sitting in the wrong seat or changing seat without permission, throwing paper across the room, refusal to do work, cursing, fooling around, or wearing a coat and hat. As stated in the PNA Staff Handbook: “These are all examples of unacceptable behavior and should not go unaddressed.” All infractions should be addressed and entered into Skedula. Contact Mr. Liu (dliu@pablonerudaacademy.org) if you have questions.
Per Session Timesheets (REMINDER)
As you know, our budget is extremely tight this year, and the school has less money available for per session activities. As a result, we are very closely monitoring these funds. In order for us to accurately monitor this money, it is imperative that per session time sheets are submitted on time. Please be advised that in order to stay eligible for per session activities, you must submit time sheets on time. Arrangements will need to be made with Ms. Cook in order to submit a time sheet after the deadline. Contact Ms. Franqui (gfranqui@pablonerudaacademy.org) if you have any questions.
