End of day procedures
All teachers should ensure that students do not
leave class before the end of the day bell rings at 3:00PM. The tone and culture of every class should
promote students asking for permission to leave the classroom, and not that
students can freely walk in and out of class during the lesson and at the end
of the day. All teachers must also ensure
student chairs are put up at the end of each day. Additionally, all student
chairs should be taken down at the beginning of each day. Leaving chairs on
desks creates a safety hazard for students. Please have students take down all
chairs, even if no one will be sitting in the chair during the period.

Field Day
This school year’s first Field Day will take place
Friday, October 9th. Instead of attending Department and Grade Team
Meetings, all staff members will be participating in Field Day Activities. An activity sign-up sheet will be placed with
the sign-in sheet Monday morning. Please
sign-up for an activity that you are interested in. If you have questions about Field Day,
contact Mr. Torres (ttorres@pablonerudaacademy.org).

Emergency Lesson Plans
(Reminder)
Three emergency lesson plans are due to Mr. Valencia by
Friday, October 2nd. You may
give the plans via email or hard copy.
As a reminder, the emergency lesson plans are only used during
situations where you and/or your co-teachers are unable to provide work that is
related to your current unit. The
expectation is to send work along with your notice of absence for each
occurrence.

Student Accommodations
Some questions came up last week regarding testing
accommodations for students with IEPs. To clarify, all students must receive
the appropriate testing accommodations as stated in their IEP. Ms.
Heller shared a document (SpEd Testing Accommodations) via Google Drive that
outlines each student’s accommodations.
In most cases, students will receive extended time and/or read aloud for
“all state exams and other tests as needed.”
English Language Learners also receive testing accommodations, which
include extended time and use of bilingual glossaries. Please work with your co-teachers to ensure
students are receiving all of their appropriate services.

Procedures for signing
in and out (Reminder)
The protocol and mandates for schools entering
attendance has changed at the school level.
Due to this shift, we have put in place a slightly different system so
that we can ensure we manage all attendance on our own without central audits. All staff will be required to punch in if
they arrive late, in addition to signing in.
All staff will also be required to punch out as well as sign out when
leaving early. To help streamline this
process, there will be a second timeclock and set of cards in Ms. Franqui’s
office. As per the staff handbook, the sign
in sheet is available at the front desk at 7:30am, please ensure you sign in
before 8:00am. If you arrive late to
work, please immediately sign in/punch in with Ms. Franqui (with the time of
sign in/punch in.) With the new
protocol, Ms. Franqui has to mark all staff present daily, which means if you
do not sign in you are automatically marked absent until Ms. Franqui has an
opportunity to reverse it. With the new
mandates, I implore all staff to follow the procedure to avoid potential fines,
suspensions, and terminations that may be levied by central offices.

Attendance 1st
period (Reminder)
A team of teachers, support staff, and leadership met
over the summer to make a decision to no longer flip our 1st and 3rd
period classes. We know that this
decision greatly affects the 1st period classes in our school. The attendance team will be pulling 1st
period attendance from Skedula in order to make automated phone calls to
students that were absent and late for 1st period. This will only be done for classes that
choose to use Skedula for attendance 1st period. If you have any questions or need support
around 1st period attendance, please contact Ms. Del Valle (jdelvalle@pablonerudaacademy.org)

Staff IDs
If you need a new PNA ID card, please see Susan Enright
in the 180 cafeteria before 1st period – OR – in the 160 cafeteria
during 4th and 5th period.
