Thanksgiving Feast

Our student Thanksgiving Feast and Staff Potluck were both huge successes. There was more than enough food for our students and our potluck fed nearly every support person in the building! Thank you for bringing in items to share and organizing and executing the feast for students. A special thank you goes out to those of you who helped with the clean-up at the end of the day. Your help not only allowed us to leave the room clean, but also to donate the extra food to a PNA family. No food went to waste! The success of this event means that we can have more like them in the future.

Winter Security

Winter has arrived, which means that it gets dark very early. Please be aware of your surroundings as you are leaving the building. The following are best practices you may want to follow:

- Leave the building in groups or pairs whenever possible

- Inform building staff when you are leaving the building

- Don’t walk with your cell phone or other electronics out

- Use the most well-lit and populated route

- Report incidents immediately (School Safety is in the building until 9:00 Monday through Thursday and until 6:00 on Fridays)

Classroom Projectors

Very soon, every PNA classroom will have a projector assigned to it. Please help us maintain the technology. One way you can help with projector maintenance is to ensure that it is turned off when it is not being used. Each bulb costs $400.00 to replace. Also, please ensure that your projector is secure at the end of the day by locking your classroom when you leave.

Classroom Management Reminders

Chancellors Regulations regarding Pupil Behavior and Discipline – Corporal Punishment (A-420) and Verbal Abuse (A-421) were attached to the Weekly Update email. Please ensure that you are familiar with these two regulations. (Please note that these two regulations were included on the Chancellor’s Regulations CD that you received with your Staff Handbook.) In addition, below are classroom management reminders that were included in your Staff Handbook. You should refrain from:

- Punishing the group for individual behavior

- Shouting/yelling at, cursing, speaking sarcastically to, or arguing with students

- Verbally or physically abusing students

- Allowing yourself to get into a power struggle with a disruptive student in front of the entire class

- Assigning extra work as punishment

- Personalizing disruptive behavior

In addition, please remember that students should not be removed from a class for minor misbehaviors (such as sleeping in class).

Observations and Walkthroughs (REMINDER)

Observations and walkthroughs will continue next week. This includes visits to Advisory classes. Please ensure that you have a lesson plan accessible at all times.
