Scholarship Letters

This round of scholarship letters were emailed to individual teachers. As a reminder, teachers with scholarship of 75% or above are in the green; teachers with scholarship between 65% and 74% are in the yellow; teachers with scholarship below 65% are in the red. Please pay close attention to the recommended interventions included on your letter and contact your department’s AP with any questions.

Instructional Walkthrough Results

Last week, administration conducted Instructional Walkthroughs. The focus of this round of walkthroughs was on Tone and Culture. Teachers on each grade level were observed. The observed best practices are attached to this week’s Weekly Update email. Questions can be directed to any member of administration.

Spring Teacher Schedules

Spring teacher schedules will be given out this week. As with fall schedules, Common Planning days and room assignments are included. Please have one member of each Common Planning team be responsible for keeping the PNA Common Planning Forms (or other artifacts created during these times). Teams may be asked to submit the forms. The PNA Common Planning Form was included in the PNA CTT Handbook and the PNA Staff Handbook. An electronic version is also included in this week’s Weekly Update email.

Staff Meeting

This week’s Staff Meeting will be differentiated sessions. This week’s sessions will include “Regents Proctoring”, “Using Writing Scaffolds to Differentiate Instruction in the Content Areas”, and “Item Analysis and its Impact on Instructional Planning”. Take time to think about which session you would like to attend. A session sign-in sheet will be placed in the Main Office on Wednesday morning. Please ensure that you sign-up for a session when you sign-in on Wednesday morning.

Copy Machines

There are two brand new copy machines in the Teacher’s Lounge. In order to reduce the amount of traffic in the main office and preserve the older machine, all teachers should use the machines in the Teacher’s Lounge to make copies. Please remember that students should never be sent out of class to make emergency copies.

Angels Program

Ms. Petrone is starting an Angels Program for some of our seniors. This program pairs a staff member with one of our seniors. The purpose is for seniors to have someone to guide them through the remainder of the school year so they are ready to graduate in June. See Ms. Petrone if you have questions or would like to be a part of this program.

Teacher to Teacher Conference

Attached to this week’s Weekly Update email is a flyer for the New York City Writing Project Teacher to Teacher Conference. Every presenter is a NYC teacher with experience in his or her topic. This year’s keynote speakers topic is “Encounters: The World as Text” and will focus on helping adolescents learn to read and respond to literary and cultural texts (in high school). The cost is $20 and it will take place at Lehman College in the Bronx. Please see Joanna Bueckert (joannab@gmail.com) from the NYC Writing Project if you are interested or have questions.

Bathroom Passes

As a reminder, all bathroom passes should be attached to a textbook. If you need a new pass, please see Mr. Liu.

Student Goal Setting (Reminder)

As stated in this month’s week’s Staff Meeting, all students will be working on creating second semester goals in Advisory. All advisors received the material necessary to complete this task. Completed sheets should be placed in Ms. Cook’s mailbox by January 21st. See Ms. Heller (aheller7@schools.ncy.gov) if you have questions.
