Quality Review Feedback
We want to thank all the staff for their consistent hard work.  While these past two days we ensured we were as perfect as possible, it was pretty much business as usual with our school.  Our official report will be shared with us 6 weeks from now.  In the reviewer’s preliminary feedback, she stated that out of the 10 Quality Review Indicators (http://schools.nyc.gov/NR/rdonlyres/B94E5CCB-1FEB-4CED-992B-7239A7C70577/0/QualityReviewBigIdeas_1617.pdf), we will be rated at least well-developed in 2 of the 10 categories, and possibly well-developed in up to 6 categories, with the rest being proficient.   Her feedback will be used to drive our future goals and next steps in order to be Well-Developed across all 10 indicators.  This report is the representation of all the hard work we have been putting into our school year after year. As a reward, you should all take Friday December 23rd off to celebrate ; ).
Teacher’s Choice
Please be mindful of due dates for your Teacher’s Choice purchases.  January 15th is the last day to make purchases and January 18th is the last day for teachers to submit Accountability forms to Ms. Franqui.  You may access the Accountability form template at the following link: http://schools.nyc.gov/NR/rdonlyres/9FF160A6-A0AD-4C06-885D-44F00BD8BE17/0/TCAccountabilityForm201415.pdf
Student lateness
As a reminder, students should not be restricted from entering class because of lateness.  Lateness should be documented and followed with a suitable progressive disciplinary response.  A suggested ladder of referral can be found in the staff handbook.  Documentation of lateness and parent outreach can lead to a dean’s referral, at which point the safety team will follow up and continue with a progressive disciplinary response.
Students leaving classrooms
As a reminder, please follow the proper protocol, as stated in the staff handbook, when you allow students to leave your classroom. Review the following:
·          Students visiting the restroom – Student should sign the bathroom log, and use the bathroom pass.  Only one student should be out at a time to use the restroom.  The safety team logs their use of the restroom with the bathroom log.
·          Students visiting the office – Student should be given a written pass to the office.
·          Student who needs a break from the classroom – Student should be escorted out by a member of the safety team.  The safety team logs the classroom removal, and is able to communicate with the teacher(s) on whether the student is able to return.
Following the proper protocol will allow us to maintain a positive hallway culture where safety can address students who are not following procedure.  This will also maintain clear lines of communication between the safety team and the teachers.
Restorative Justice and classroom management support
As part of the NYCDOE’s support in youth development, a Restorative Justice Coordinator, Joye Harper, will be available Thursdays and Fridays to connect, observe, give feedback, and collaborate with our staff on the effectiveness of using restorative practices in the classroom.  Staff who are interested in support may connect with Ms. Harper at joyeharper@yahoo.com and/or stop by her office in room 279.  She is available for class visits, demos, and one on one training.
